Quickly blurbed descriptions on web sites  sometimes do not do justice to products.  Our new microfiber cloths and pouches are examples of these types of products.

Available in seven (7) fun tennis designs these microfiber cloths will amaze.  Since the moment I received mine as a sample at a trade show, I have used it daily.  It cleans better than anything.  Works like magic.  No solvents.  No water. No chemicals.  Just a special microfiber cloth.  Simply put, it delivers!

I especially like it for quickly and easily wiping away oily face deposits and fingerprints that accumulate on my Palm Pre smartphone.  (Works on iPhones, Blackberries and iPods too!)  It cleans the eyebrow marks and spots from glasses and sunglasses with ease.  Heck, being follicly challenged, a quick swipe of this over the old dome helps reduce/remove shine as afternoon/evening hours approach.  I know it wasn’t designed for for this purpose, but if McGyver were in my boat he would undoubtably use it in the same manner!

This product not only delivers, it is thoroughly  blog worthy!  Thus, in addition to our personal testimonial we are going to provide as much information as possible.  We sell the perfect pocket size standard cloths (6×8 or 7×7) for $6.25 and the draw string pouches (good for carrying and cleaning glasses, ipods jewelry, electronics) for $7.25.  The pouches are currently available in only two designs.

What is this special Mircrofiber material???

The Microfiber used in our cloths are a synthetic textile made from fibers that are 100 times finer than human hair and 10 times finer than silk. A single ounce stretches 132 miles in length. Each fiber is composed of wedge shaped polyester strands that surround a core of polyamide to form a single thread. These dual component fibers are then knit to form a very dense and strong fabric with more than 90,000 fibers per square inch.

The polyamide core of the fibers attracts water, and creates a wicking action that allows the fabric to soak up liquids like a sponge. The polyester wedges attract oils. When knit together, these wedges create millions of tiny triangular pockets that scoop up and hold on to dirt, dust, and oils. The resulting textile is silky soft, exceptionally absorbent, and has an uncanny ability to remove oily residue without the use of chemicals. It is this unique structural design that makes a microfiber cloth such an effective cleaning tool.

Microfiber cleans without scratching, and is proven safe for use on all lenses and delicate surfaces. It can be used on eyeglasses, cameras, and binoculars. Even lenses with anti-reflective coatings can be safely cleaned with this product.

Microfiber is also great for cleaning and maintaining personal electronics. It cleans cell phones, iPhones, iPods, PDAs, CD/DVDs, computer screens, and TV monitors, leaving the surface polished and lint-free. No chemicals or solvents are needed.

When the cloth becomes soiled, machine wash with a mild detergent and tumble dry. It always cleans like new, even after hundreds of launderings. For best results, do not use bleach, fabric softener, or softener sheets.

We’re cleaning our shop and have come across many reels that contain 20′ or more of string, but not the full 40′. Rather than recycle or keep it laying around we’d rather make it available to our online customers who may wish to put it to use. We are currently selling MSV Focus and Focus Hex 1/2 sets for $2.90. We also have some 1.20 Silverstring 1/2’s that we are selling for $4.50. These are available only while supplies last. They will not appear on our website. Are the “Big Boys” really better?

Earlier today we noted that a well-known tennis message board had a post concerning the new WeissCANNON Explosiv!, which Guts and Glory Tennis has introduced to the USA. The post read, “Any updates on the release date of these strings? I would much rather spend my money at <SNIP> than at some random internet site. Really want to try these out!!”

Random internet site? Phooey! Our site is the face of a company that has been at the forefront of introducing new string products to the USA for the past 5 years. Guts and Glory Tennis was first to introduce Signum Pro Poly Plasma, Signum Pro Megaforce, Topspin CyberFlash, all WeissCANNON poly-based strings, all MSV strings, Topspin CyberBlue and now the newest and perhaps best multi in the marketplace, WeissCANNON Explosiv!. We have altered the tennis landscape by introducing superior playing strings at prices much more reasonable than the more well-known brands. Better products at lower costs.

This is the site whose owner takes pride in responding to all customer questions. A site where the buying public has direct access to our knowledge and experience via our blog, discussion board and the telephone. How often is the person taking the phone order able to answer questions on playability/performance based on personal experience? What about unfettered honesty? How many times do the Big Boys listen to customers and say, “we think you would be best served by a product we do not carry?” or “I think you would be better served by this lower cost (and lower profit) product?”

One final thought. Large e-tailers clearly meet the needs and desires of many customers by offering a huge inventory at low prices.  We offer a smaller alternative with a focus on acquiring and disseminating knowledge of the products we carry.  There is clearly room for both types of service in the marketplace.  Ultimately the customer will decide where his/her needs are best served.

New Products Arrive

The following new items are now available. MSV Focus Hex, one of our best-selling copoly strings, is now available in a new thicker/more durable diameter, 1.28mm, which equates to a guage of 16L. Currently this product is only available in white. We expect to have it available in white, black and red in early June. Also MSV Hex 1.10 is now available in a new color…red!

Also MSV’s newest evolution, the MSV Focus EVO, has arrived. Currently it is available in 40′ sets. The color is amber and it is available in 16, 17 and 17L gauges (1.30mm, 1.25mm and 1.20mm). We are hoping the crystal color and reels will also be available in early June.

On the Horizon…

Several of our customers have contacted us recently inquiring about the newest, latest and greatest.  We are known for being the first to introduce new string products to the USA.  Indeed we have been the first to introduce many outstanding string products.  As a result, we are continually receiving samples for playtesting.  To be honest, we reject many more than we choose to select.  In order to make a positive impression the string must possess excellent ability to hold playing properties and tension.  It also must either offer something different than the strings we currently carry or it must offer something similar at a lower cost.

Here’s the newest that have us excited in random order.

MSV Focus EVO – The playtests for this new copolymer have been excellent.  It will be a nice addition to the MSV lineup.  We look for this string to arrive in early May when it will be available in 40′ sets.  It will not be available in reels until later this summer.  The string will come in 1.20, 1.25 and 1.30 diameters.

WeissCANNON Repulse – A new copolymer from WeissCANNON.  This will be the thinnest offering from WeissCANNON.  It will be available in a 1.13mm version and the color will be white.  Play is similar to the Phaenomen, which is a co-poly hybrid produced by WeissCANNON.  We expect this string to be available later in summer 2008.

WeissCANNON Explosiv! – A new multifiber string.  We are anxious to playtest this string.  German playtests have been raving about this new multi that is constructed with 1250 ultra-thin twisted fibers. We have been told there is very little string movement, the string is proving to be quite durable.  Performance wise it is being described as “gut-like play with incredible elasticity.”  Easy to string with no notching.  This string should be available later in summer 2008.

No Frills Black Knight – This is a new generation copolymer that we are currently testing from an independent string dealer in Germany.  If playtests continue to go well, we MAY make this string available as part of our No Frills series of affordable copolymer strings.  Not sure about this one, but it is promising so we decided to include it in this blog entry.

Guts and Glory Tennis is interested to see how our customers will respond to lower-cost high quality tennis string products. The concept is similar to generic products you might find in a pharmacy. Reduce costs by eliminating the frills, ie fancy packaging, marketing, advertising and branding. The customer receives a product in which satisfaction is guaranteed at a price much lower than the competing brands…(it’s good stuff, just not wrapped up pretty!) As always, we will not compromise on quality so you can be assured each product we sell meets our standards of excellence.

We want to hear from you. We plan to test the market with two new products in the coming days. The first will be a copolymer called Big Pace which is eerily similar to a ProSupex string with a similar name. It will be available in 1.22mm, 1.25mm and 1.28mm at the cost of $5.99 per 40′ set. (Compare to $7.95 per set)

The second is a string that can be compared to the new Luxilon ALU Fluoro. We call ours Platinum Mint. It will be available in 1.19mm, 1.24mm and 1.29mm at a cost of $9.99 per 40′ set. (Compare to $17.00 per set)

Note: These products will be limited as we test the market to see if interest in such products exist. If no interest is found, these products will be discontinued. If interest is keen, we will explore expanding the product line.

New Items

Guts and Glory Tennis is pleased to add two new products to our online store. First, Annie is proud to add another item to her growing list of “Tennis Pooch Products.” The new tennis doggie notecards come 8 to a pack and measure 5″ x 4″. Simply too cute! Remember all proceeds from Tennis Pooch Supplies go to Annie’s Frisbee Fund. (Annie is our adorable Fox Terrier and a terrific buinsess partner!) Our second product will appeal to our string customers. The new Unique Big Hitter Blue is another very nice copolymer option from Unique Sports products. Unique is little known for its string offerings, which is ashame because it does offer some outstanding choices. The brand new Big Hitter Blue received high marks and praise in a recent playtest by the United States Racquet Stringers Association.  One USRSA playtester commented, “I’ve never been a big polyester fan. This string has changed my mind. I can’t believe how playable and comfortable this string is. This string has the best of both worlds: playability and power.”  Another one said, “As a multifilament user, I tend not to like the stiffness of polyester. This string, however, is extremely playable. The combination of power, spin, control, and comfort is truly impressive. Perhaps it’s time to make a switch.”
